Galaksi is no longer little
Galaksi, once a tiny and fragile orangutan at Samboja Lestari’s Rehabilitation Centre, has blossomed into a lively and spirited youngster.
Since he arrived in 2021, Galaksi has been under the careful watch of our dedicated surrogate mothers at the baby house, where he has flourished.
His physical transformation is one of the most noticeable changes in Galaksi’s life. After three years in the baby house, his weight has increased significantly, from 2.4 kg to 10 kg. This growth is a testament to the excellent care and nutritious diet provided by our surrogate mothers and the animal welfare team at the rehabilitation centre.
From loner to social butterfly
Despite his small size compared to his peers, Galaksi has proven that size is not a limitation when it comes to his skills and abilities. He has developed into a clever and agile orangutan, delighting in the freedom of the forest. Galaksi is no longer the solitary individual he once was; he now relishes the company of his peers, especially enjoying playtime with Baimah, Otan, and Feruza.
One of Galaksi’s remarkable feats is his climbing ability. He has shown incredible agility, scaling trees to heights of up to 5 metres. This impressive skill demonstrates his confidence and comfort in his natural habitat.
Playful and adventurous
Now part of the nursery group at Forest School, Galaksi continues to thrive. He has a particular fondness for fruits and milk, relishing every last drop. His playful nature and adventurous spirit make him a joy to watch as he explores the forest and interacts with his fellow orangutans.
As Galaksi continues to grow and develop, we hope to soon promote him to the higher levels of the forest school. With his determination and zest for life, Galaksi will undoubtedly continue to impress and inspire all who have the privilege of knowing him. Go, Galaksi, go!
