Steve Leonard and Michaela Strachan are on a rescue mission to help save some of our closest animal relatives – orangutans.
With their forest home disappearing at a terrifying rate, it’s estimated that these magnificent animals will be extinct within 10 years. Filmed at BOS Foundation’s Nyaru Menteng Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, Orangutan Diary follows the life and death struggle of some of the many orangutan orphans. The sanctuary is a lifeline for close to 600 orangutans, most of which are victims of deforestation and palm oil.
Get to meet Lone Droscher Nielsen, the founder and director of the centre, who has dedicated the last 13 years of her life saving these great apes. She and her team work round the clock to care for and educate the orangutans. Their aim is to return as many animals as possible back to the wild.
